Find an Asteroid

Your first step as a Miner will be to locate an Asteroid. This shouldn't be too hard if you are in the right Quadrant. Asteroids are found predominantly in the Outer Rim Quadrants - the 16 Quadrants on the outside of the Galactic Map. You can only locate Asteroids while in the Sector View, not the Quadrant View.

Move into that Sector

When you locate an Asteroid you need to move into the Sector it's in.

Check Asteroid Size

Once you've in the same Sector as the Asteroid you will have the option to Scan and Mine the Asteroid. You will also be shown the Asteroids size in Isatons.

Scan Asteroid

Click on Scan to see what kind of Ore's are in the Asteroid. Depending on the Scanner Upgrade you have you will receive more or less information about the Ore inside the Asteroid. The most common is Iridium Ore. When you first start Mining an Asteroid, you will most likely get all Iridium Ore. As you get closer to the end of the Asteroid you will locate much more of the valuable Ore's such as Zirconium, Gold and Fullerite. The rarest Ore is Spice Ore which can only be found near the Planet Exillis.

Mine Asteroid

To start Mining an Asteroid click click on the Mine button. You will be shown again the size of the Asteroid in Isatons and how much space you have in your Cargo Hold. You can decide how much Ore you want and click the Mine Asteroid button to get it. The best thing to do is to fill your entire Cargo Hold.

Your New Cargo

The Message Bar will dispaly the total amount of Ore Mined, how much of each Ore you Mined and how many Turns it used.

Refining

Before selling you can choose to Refine your Ore's. Some Ore's, such as Iridium, are not worth Refining. Zirconium is marginally worth refining. Fullerite and Gold should always be Refined. Note that going to a Refinery and then to a Planet uses up Turns.

Selling

Once you have Refined any Ores you wish to refine, you will need to find the closest Planet to sell your Items. Once you get there, click on Quadrant View, then Trading Post and on the right hand side you will be able to click on "sell" to sell your cargo. The price you will get for your items can be seen on the left side (buy side).

What Next

You have embarked upon one of the most profitable occupations in the game and you will be well on your way to your first 100 million in no time. There are also many mining groups that will help you in your mining.

If you're just starting out as a miner, you're probably in the MS-200, which has a 160 Cargo Hold but you will want to make it your goal to eventually upgrade to an MS-400 or a Freighter with a Mining Drill.

If you are in the Exillis corner (Omega, Outer Rim ESE, Outer Rim SE and Outer Rim SSE quadrants), you can also find Spice Ore. The raw ore is not as valuable as zirconium ore, but spice ore can be refined to the valuable Exillis Spice. However, Exillis Spice is illegal on all worlds, and you must sell it on the Black Market. If you are caught doing this, you will suffer large Popularity penalties. Selling the spice ore is legal.
