Upgrades

When at a planet with a shipyard you can do upgrades to your ship that can be purchased for credits and points. At a Shipyard, you can buy weapons, Hardpoints, and Fighters.
To be able to use the best upgrades bigger and better ships must be purchased first, the upgrades that are blacked out cannot be used on your current ship.

Jumpdrive
Upgrading your jumpdrive will increase the amount of sectors your ship can travel in one Hyper Jump by 7 sectors for each level of upgrade. Each upgrade will also slightly reduce the amount of turns used, compared with your previous jumpdrive, over the same distance of sectors.
Armor
Upgrading your armor allows for you ship to take more damage. The lowest protection is Carbide Armour, which everyone starts with. Then there is Ablative which is the first upgrade and finally Plexisteel which is the best armor. Note: When you buy a new ship, armor does not carry over.
Navigation
Upgrading your navigation will reduce the amount of turns used for each move, Lightspeed or Hyper Jump. Also upgrading your navigation allows for your Nav Computer to store more and more entries. This is a good thing to have for anyone that visits a place often. Finally, a ship with a good navigation system has a great ability to avoid attacks.
Scanner
Upgrading your scanner will enable you to collect more salvage and scan for ships at greater distances for each upgrade. You will need the first scanner upgrade to collect any salvage at all, this first upgrade allows salvage to be taken from any sector which has 6,000 isatons or more of debris and costs 1 turn per 20 isotons collected.
Targeting
Upgrading your targeting improves the effectiveness of your weapons, allowing you to hit the target with more regularity.
Nanobots
Upgrading your repair systems means your ships Shield, Engine and Shield Generator will self repair. Higher level upgrades increase the rate of repair.
Shield Generator
Upgrading your shield generator will give your ship a shield to protect it from attacks. Higher level upgrades give more powerful shields which will withstand more damage. You can also upgrade to a Cloaking Shield, this means that while the shield is online you will not appear on the Starships in Sector list for other players. You can only be detected by sector scans. The chance of you being seen depends on the other players scanner, for the worst scanner there is a 1 in 60 chance of being seen and for the best scanner there is a 1 in 5 chance. You cannot use a cloaking shield and a defensive shield.
